My name is Debebe Yirga, I grew up in Addis Ababa in a Christian family. They took me to Kale Heywot Church around our neighborhood and I joined Sunday school at age 6. I decided to accept Jesus as my personal savior at Sunday school when our teacher invited us to come to Jesus. She was telling us about the cross of Christ and what He did on the cross to save us. God opens my heart, and I could understand the love of God and I stand up and confess my sin and announce that I follow Jesus. Then I joined children’s choir at age nine. The choir was the only one of its kind in the city and it was well-known among evangelicals back then during the communist time. God has been working in my life through people in my church who were exemplary in their ministry as leaders of the church and teachers whom I look up as models. They make me love the Bible and study it.
I got my BA degree in Accounting and Finance and I am serving at IEC as Chief Accountant. I also love to teach and preach the gospel. I have done my B.Th. and MABTS in Biblical Studies with concentration on New Testament Studies. I serve as an elder, teacher and choir member at the church where I have grown up.
I am married to Genet Haile, who is a traditional cloth designer. Genet and I have three boys- Nathan (age 13), Kaleb (age 11), and Benayas (age 9).
